Kingdom Hearts has a special place in a lot of our hearts, especially if you grew up with a PlayStation 2. But after years of spin-off and mobile titles, we’ll finally be getting the next entry in the main Kingdom Hearts line. In a talk with IGN at D23 Expo, Kingdom Hearts III’s director has hinted at the ability to play as someone other than Sora.
“So it would be tough to introduce many, multiple playable characters, but there is an intention of adding a playable character aside from Sora. Unfortunately we’re not able to disclose who it is yet, but there will be [another playable character].”
Nomura also discussed how up to five characters can join your party and fight together. The D23 Expo trailer showed this off when Sora was joined by not just Disney’s Donald and Goofy but also Buzz Lightyear and Woody from the Toy Story films.
Kingdom Hearts III is planned for a 2018 release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Although a few days ago it was reported that Nomura said Kingdom Hearts III might come to Nintendo Switch, the director has since spoken out to clarify that they’ll only look at other platforms after the initial launch.
