Some of the richest people in the world are trying to find a way to break us out of a simulation that we live in. This includes the man behind Tesla, Elon Musk.
Now, it’s not all that crazy to say that there are things in this universe that we have no idea about. Scientist have even recently proven things like Lucid dreaming and that other dimensions exist. There are just far too many things even in our own world that we don’t and may never understand.
Well, that’s not going to stop a few of the world’s richest and most powerful people who will be investing money into research that can find a way to take humankind out of the simulation.
One of the biggest names among this group is Elon Musk. Elon Musk hasn’t been shy about his beliefs and ideas about what can be done in this world.
We’re talking about a person who:
- Created PayPal
- Founded SpaceX
- Made Tesla a reality
- Is working on Hyperloop
Elon Musk is no stranger to changing the world we live in. Who would have thought an electric powered car that can drive in autopilot would be a reality so soon? But Tesla has proven it possible.
With things like self-driving cars, a possible cure for HIV, virtual reality headsets, and commercial flights to Mars happening, why would research into a possible Matrix be so absurd? When you think about it, we create the Matrix almost every day. Just look at the simulations in video games like the Witcher 3, The Elder Scrolls Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto 5.
All of the games listed have simulated worlds that are magnitudes more complex than the simulated video games worlds 10 to 15 years ago. Imagine what simulated worlds we’ll be experiencing 15 years from now.
Elon Musk has even said:
The strongest argument for us probably being in a simulation I think is the following. 40 years ago we had Pong – two rectangles and a dot. That’s where we were. Now 40 years later we have photorealistic, 3D simulations with millions of people playing simultaneously and it’s getting better every year. And soon we’ll have virtual reality, we’ll have augmented reality. If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then the games will become indistinguishable from reality, just indistinguishable.
Video: Is life a video game?
And Elon Musk is not alone in believing the idea that we may all live in a simulation. Neil deGrasse Tyson also believes that there may be a ‘very high’ possibility that the universe could be a simulation. Even some of Bank of America’s analysts are saying that there is a 50% chance that we are living in a simulation.
Oxford philosopher Nick Bostrum came up with a simulation argument in which one of the three propositions he presents suggest ‘we are almost certainly living in a computer simulation’.
So since some of the world’s wealthiest and smartest people are saying we may be living in a simulation what are we to believe? And since some of them are willing to pay for research to be done to prove this is possible you really can’t say they are just all about talk. It seems they wholeheartedly believe in the possibility and maybe one day we will too.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream.
