With the release of Final Fantasy XV only weeks from release, all eyes are on the highly-anticipated title. But while we’ve waited years for the next numbered entry in the legendary series, Square Enix has released a good amount of mobile titles as well.
The next one is being teased via a new website that features a counter and a URL that includes “FF NEW,” although it’s likely just a placeholder name. But what has everyone excited is the special message left by Takashi Tokita:
Final Fantasy is about characters with anger and sadness and dramatic battles full of humanity. And more than anything else, we should not forget the fantasy.
Tokita served as lead game designer for Final Fantasy IV and director of Chrono Trigger, two classic titles considered among the best RPGs to grace the 90’s. Chrono Trigger is still seen by many as one of the best games ever made for its great storytelling and fun gameplay that holds up more than 20 years later.
Tokita has also been involved in other recent Square Enix games even received a Special Thanks for recent projects, including I Am Setsuna and Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV. The counter on the website is currently at 2 days, which means we’ll soon learn what his secret new title is.
