Sony launched the “super-charged” PlayStation 4 Pro last November 10th, and the reviews have been positive so far. The PS4 Pro comes with an improved CPU and GPU, with HDR support, higher resolutions and smoother framerates.
Prior to the console’s release last week, Sony made an official list on which games will be optimized for the PS4 Pro at launch.
The list contains more than 30 games, with more on the way before 2016 closes. However, Sony did not provide any details on the specific enhancements for each game, but will do so during the next few days and weeks. Now, you can cross off four games on the list: Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us Remastered and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Let’s start with the two games from Naughty Dog.
The Last of Us Remastered
One of the best games ever created just got even better. You can play The Last of Us Remastered in full using two configurations: either at 2160p with the original 30 fps or at 1800p with a faster 60 fps. You can also enjoy the game in full 1080p resolution if you’re not equipped with a pricey 4K TV. Whatever PS4 Pro setup you prefer, no doubt your goosebumps will be summoned again during the game’s shocking ending sequence.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Join Nathan Drake on his adventure once again, but this time with even better visuals. The game’s single-player story mode can be boosted from 1080p to 1440p resolution. And although it will still retain its high framerate, multiplayer mode can be similarly boosted from the original 900p to 1080 resolution. And like The Last of Us Remastered, the game will still render at full 1080p on a non-4K TV.
On top of these enhancements, both Naughty Dog games have been updated to allow 4K screenshots using the Share button. Also, you can stream at 1080p with 60 fps and capture gameplay footage at 1080p with 30 fps. You can check out the full details of the two games’ enhancements at the PlayStation Blog, posted by Naughty Dog.
The Last Guardian
After numerous setbacks and delays, The Last Guardian will finally see daylight on December 6th. Official details on the game’s PS4 Pro enhancements are not yet available, but Eurogamer reports that it will upscale to 4K and support HDR even on the base PS4 model. The Last Guardian is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus. Hopefully, the wait is worth it – with or without PS4 Pro optimization.
Final Fantasy XV
Like The Last Guardian, the fifteenth installment in the main Final Fantasy series (excluding prequels and sequels) has been through a long development. It was supposed to launch last September, but suffered another delay and was pushed back to November 29th.
During a recent Active Time Report livestream, director Hajime Tabata revealed a few details on the Final Fantasy XV PS4 Pro patch which will arrive later next month, as reported by Siliconera. According to Tabata, the patch will allow you to run the game at 1080p resolution with 60 fps. Well, at least that’s what they’re aiming for anyway. At the moment, they’re in the 40-50 fps range. You can also go to 4K mode if you prefer, but it will be at the expense of a lower framerate at 30 fps.
Square Enix has just released the game’s final gameplay demo called Final Fantasy XV Judgment Disc, but only in Japan. If you don’t own a Japanese PlayStation Store account (likely), you can check out how the game looks like with PS4 Pro support in the video below.
That’s all for now. Expect more information on other games’ PS4 Pro enhancements over the next few weeks as developers continue to tinker with Sony’s latest console.
