In March of this year, Miitomo released alongside the new My Nintendo program to serve as Nintendo’s first mobile title. While it didn’t feature Mario or any of their biggest characters, the social networking app proved a hit, passing one million downloads in only three days.
Unfortunately for those using iOS 7 and older, you’ll soon stop receiving any new updates made to Miitomo this December. Here’s what Nintendo had to say:
Thank you for using Miitomo.
Until now, Miitomo has supported devices running iOS 7 or newer. However, in order to continue improving our service and your experience, the following changes will take effect with an update on or after December 2016.
iPhone/iPod touch/iPad running iOS 7 or newer
Note: iPhone 4 is not supported
[After December Update]
iPhone/iPod touch/iPad running iOS 8 or newer
We apologize to all users who are currently using iOS 7. We recommend that you upgrade your OS at the soonest opportunity.
We hope you continue to enjoy using Miitomo.
While we doubt many will be devastated by this news, it could be a cause for worry considering that Super Mario Run is right around the corner. It’d be a shame for anyone with iOS 7 and older to eventually miss out on updates for Mario’s mobile debut.
