Japanese giant Nintendo, nurturing nostalgia for its oldest “digital-era” fans – released the NES Classis Edition gaming console which packs 30 of the best games featured on the platform.
Off the cuff, this “miniature” version of the 1983 gaming machine sports one controller within the box (additional controller comes at $10), is USB powered, with one HDMI out and 30 pre-programmed games inside – all at the retail price of $60.
NES Mini vs NES
Compared to its older brother (maybe even uncle), the NES Classic is small enough so that it fits in an average human palm. It’s also lighter, and the design looks the same, but upon touch it feels more “soft” than its original counterpart – which sported a rigid grey plastic all over its design.
Upfront you cannot find anything that wasn’t previously there: the power and reset buttons. One turns the device on, the other brings you back to the menu, from which you can save your current progress or opt out from playing altogether.
The controller is an identical replica as opposed to the old Nintendo Entertainment System with a d-pad, select and start buttons and the all-too-familiar red ‘B’ and ‘A’ circles from left to right.
The NES Classic Edition comes with 3 display options:
- Pixel Perfect – same input/output
- 4:3 – as in cathode-ray TV’s, but crisp image
- CRT filter – blurry as in the olden days
Classic haunted castle narrative where you battle your way through ghosts, bats and all kinds of gnarly apparitions.
Side-scrolling sports game that puts you in the boots of a professional dirt bike racer and puts enormous obstacles to prevent you from achieving the first place.
3. Ninja Gaiden
The protagonist, controlled by you, is a stealthy ninja assassin that solves all problems with a swish of a katana sword.
