At Gamescom 2017, Microsoft revealed that the upcoming Halo Wars 2 expansion will be releasing September 26th. Awakening the Nightmare features a story set months after the main campaign and lets players take part in the war between the UNSC Spirit of Fire and the Banished. A highlight of the expansion is the ability to command the Banished along with an appearance by the Flood. Other content includes a spectator mode, arena functionality, and the Terminus Firefight multiplayer mode.
The original Halo Wars was praised for bringing an RTS experience that was fun to play with a game controller instead of the classic mouse and keyboard setup. The sequel, which released for Xbox One this past February, also received generally favorable reviews for serving as yet another accessible strategy title for console gamers. Halo Wars 2 is available on PC and Xbox One.
