The Amazon Echo has been an incredibly successful device for Amazon. It’s in the home of millions of owners and has become the center of smart home technology for many users.
So how does Amazon plan to follow up with the Echo’s success?
Meet the 2nd generation Amazon Echo Dot.
Scheduled to release on October 20, 2016, the Dot is Amazon’s inexpensive version of the Amazon Echo.
The Amazon Echo Dot lets you add Alexa voice control to any room in your home of office at a very inexpensive price. You can think of the 2nd generation Amazon Echo Dot as a smaller, lighter, and more affordable version of the previous Dot model.
With the Dot you have the option to use buttons located at the top of the device or complete voice control commands. Users will find it more preferable to use their voice to control things like volume and mute instead of always physically pressing buttons on the device.
The one downside to the Amazon Dot is that it doesn’t make for a good speaker. It’s recommended that you connect a speaker in the Dot’s 3.5mm jack for better sound for things like music and audiobooks. You also have the option to use Bluetooth speakers as well.
The great thing about the Amazon Dot is that it functions just like the regular Amazon Echo. You can use a variety of smart home accessories designed for Echo to work with your Dots placed throughout your home.
With Dot you can also use normal Alexa commands to:
- Search the Web
- Control music
- Get weather reports
- Ask Alexa questions
- Hear national news
If you’re someone who already owns an Amazon Echo and you want the convenience of having more placed throughout your home, then the Echo Dot is for you. There’s even an option to buy a multipack of Dots (6-pack & 12-pack).
