It seems like just yesterday that people gave up on ever seeing a popular Nintendo franchise on smartphones. But after the astounding success that was Pokémon GO, it’s clear there’s money for the legendary Japanese company to make in the mobile game market.
Now, gamers are anxiously waiting for the next big Nintendo title to hit the App Store— Super Mario Run. This auto-runner platformer allows players to take their favorite plumber across several worlds with simple taps of the screen.
This last weekend, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that more than 20 million iOS users chose to receive a notification when Super Mario Run is released. Nintendo shares also soared 18 percent in Tokyo and 29 percent in American depositary receipts upon the game’s reveal at Apple’s annual iPhone event.
Tim Cook to BuzzFeed Japan: Super Mario Run already boasts 20 million iOS users who chose to get notifications when the game is out in Dec.
